A quick definition of academy:

Academy: A place where people go to learn more about a specific subject. It can be a college, a group of experts who share knowledge, or a private high school. The word comes from a garden in Greece where a famous philosopher named Plato taught his students.

A more thorough explanation:

An academy is a type of institution that can have different meanings:

  1. An academy can be a college or university where people go to study and learn at a higher level than high school.
  2. An academy can also be an organization that is dedicated to advancing knowledge in a specific field. For example, the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers is an organization that helps lawyers who specialize in family law.
  3. Another type of academy is a private high school. These schools are usually smaller and more specialized than public high schools.
  4. Finally, the word "academy" can also refer to a specific school of philosophy that was led by Plato in ancient Greece. This school was located in a garden near Athens.

  • The National Academy of Sciences is an organization that is dedicated to advancing knowledge in the field of science.
  • Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts is an example of a private high school.
  • The Academy of Athens was the school of philosophy that was led by Plato in ancient Greece.

These examples illustrate the different meanings of the word "academy." Depending on the context, it can refer to a college or university, an organization, a high school, or a specific school of philosophy.

@mastermonkey45: Looking at some of the recent decisions in relation to when they went complete, I'd say it's a good sign. It seems many declines were sent within about 5-6 weeks of completion. Given those were applications that were SENT in January, I'd say that means you're still solidly in the running. :)

Sent an app to OSU in early december and have STILL not heard back
Give it 4 more weeks at least. Everyone in this chat needs to wait longer.
