arise

Read a random definition: court crier

A quick definition of arise:

Term: ARISE

Definition: When something arises, it means that it comes from somewhere or happens because of something else. For example, a problem can arise from a mistake or accident. Sometimes, a question or idea can arise in your mind, which means you start thinking about it. When a court arises, it means that it stops working for a while.

A more thorough explanation:

Definition: To come into existence or notice; to originate or result from something.

Examples:

  • A federal claim can arise under the U.S. Constitution.
  • Lawsuits often arise from accidents.
  • The question of appealability arose during the trial.
  • The court decided to arise for the day and continue the trial tomorrow.

The first two examples illustrate how something can arise from a specific source, such as a claim arising from the U.S. Constitution or a lawsuit arising from an accident. The third example shows how a question can arise in someone's mind or come to their attention. The fourth example demonstrates how a court can arise or suspend sitting, meaning they adjourn for the day.
