Simple English definitions for legal terms

effective assignment

Read a random definition: class voting

A quick definition of effective assignment:

Effective Assignment: This means giving someone a task or job to do in a way that works well and gets the job done. It's like giving someone a puzzle to solve and making sure they have all the pieces they need to finish it.

Effective Assistance of Counsel: This means having a lawyer who helps you in the best way possible. It's like having a coach who helps you play your best game.

Effective Cause: This means the thing that directly caused something to happen. It's like the last domino in a line that knocks over all the others.

Effective Date: This is the day when something becomes official and can be enforced. It's like the day when a new rule at school starts and everyone has to follow it.

A more thorough explanation:

An effective assignment is a task or project that is completed successfully and achieves its intended purpose. It refers to the ability to complete an assignment in a way that meets or exceeds the expectations of the person who assigned it.

  • Completing a research paper that meets all the requirements and earns a high grade
  • Finishing a work project on time and within budget
  • Creating a presentation that effectively communicates the desired message to the audience

These examples illustrate effective assignments because they were completed successfully and achieved their intended purpose. In each case, the person who assigned the task was satisfied with the outcome.

The effective date is the date on which a law, contract, or other legal document becomes enforceable or takes effect. It may be different from the date on which it was signed or enacted.

A new law is signed by the governor on January 1st, but it may not take effect until July 1st. The effective date is July 1st, even though the law was signed earlier.

This example illustrates the concept of effective date by showing that the date on which a law is signed is not necessarily the same as the date on which it takes effect. The effective date is the date on which the law becomes enforceable.

@mastermonkey45: Looking at some of the recent decisions in relation to when they went complete, I'd say it's a good sign. It seems many declines were sent within about 5-6 weeks of completion. Given those were applications that were SENT in January, I'd say that means you're still solidly in the running. :)

Sent an app to OSU in early december and have STILL not heard back
