Simple English definitions for legal terms

incorporated

Read a random definition: Registered agent

A quick definition of incorporated:

Incorporated: When a group or organization becomes a legal corporation, it means they have followed certain rules and laws to become recognized as a separate entity. This can apply to both private and public groups. It can also mean that something has been mixed in with something else, like when a law is applied to state governments because it is related to another law.

A more thorough explanation:

Definition:

  1. Formed into a legal corporation. This means that a private or public entity has gone through the process of becoming a corporation. A corporation is a type of business structure that is recognized as a separate legal entity from its owners. For example, if a group of people want to start a business, they can incorporate it to protect their personal assets from any liabilities the business may incur.
  2. Combined or mixed in with something else. In constitutional law, an incorporated amendment of the U.S. Constitution is one that has been applied to state governments by concluding that the rights described in that amendment are mixed in to the language and intent of the Fourteenth Amendment. This means that the amendment is now considered a part of the Fourteenth Amendment and applies to state governments as well.

Examples:

  • A group of entrepreneurs decided to start a new tech company. They incorporated the business to protect their personal assets from any potential lawsuits or debts the company may face.
  • The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution has not been incorporated, meaning that it only applies to the federal government and not state governments. However, the First Amendment has been incorporated and now applies to state governments as well.

The first example illustrates the first definition of incorporated, which means forming a legal corporation. The second example illustrates the second definition of incorporated, which means mixing something in with something else. In this case, the rights described in the First Amendment have been mixed in with the language and intent of the Fourteenth Amendment, making it applicable to state governments as well.

I would not be able to play the waitlist game, if I was a single college kid but I got a baby coming in a few weeks, and a whole household I would have to move. I think I got a decent chance at 2/3 schools. I aimed based more on location then prestige
12:33
I'm basically ineligible for the T14 due to GPA so not even applying but those for sure

12:34
I feel like if you would move across the country for a school it’s worth applying
