late-term abortion

A quick definition of late-term abortion:

Late-term abortion is when a pregnancy is ended on purpose during the later stages, usually after the middle of the second trimester. This is different from a miscarriage, which happens naturally. The law allows women to choose to end their pregnancy before the fetus becomes viable, but after that, states can limit the right to an abortion. Late-term abortions are controversial and can only be done if it is necessary to preserve the life or health of the mother.

A more thorough explanation:

Definition: Late-term abortion is the termination of a pregnancy during the later stages, usually after the middle of the second trimester.

Examples: A woman who is 24 weeks pregnant decides to have an abortion. Another woman who is 28 weeks pregnant learns that her fetus has a severe medical condition and chooses to have a late-term abortion.

Explanation: Late-term abortion is a controversial topic, and laws regarding it vary by state. In some states, it is illegal except in cases where the mother's life is in danger. In other states, it is legal up until the point of viability, which is around 24 weeks. The examples illustrate situations where a woman may choose to have a late-term abortion for personal or medical reasons.
