Simple English definitions for legal terms

loquela

Read a random definition: implied malice

A quick definition of loquela:

Term: LOQUELA

Definition: Loquela is a fancy word that means talking. In the past, it was used to describe the conversations between people who were arguing in court. These conversations were important because they helped the judge understand what the argument was about. Nowadays, it can also refer to discussions that happen when people are trying to come to an agreement outside of court.

A more thorough explanation:

Definition: Loquela (lə-kwē-lə), n. [Law Latin "talk"]

  1. The oral discussions between the parties to a lawsuit leading to the issue, now called the pleadings.
  2. Settlement discussions.

Examples:

  • During the loquela, the plaintiff and defendant discussed the details of the case before the trial began.
  • The lawyers engaged in loquela to try and reach a settlement outside of court.

Explanation:

Loquela refers to the oral discussions that take place between the parties involved in a lawsuit before the trial begins. These discussions are now known as pleadings. Additionally, loquela can also refer to settlement discussions between the parties involved in a lawsuit. The examples provided illustrate how loquela is used in both contexts. In the first example, the plaintiff and defendant engage in loquela to discuss the details of the case before the trial begins. In the second example, the lawyers engage in loquela to try and reach a settlement outside of court.

@mastermonkey45: Looking at some of the recent decisions in relation to when they went complete, I'd say it's a good sign. It seems many declines were sent within about 5-6 weeks of completion. Given those were applications that were SENT in January, I'd say that means you're still solidly in the running. :)
