A quick definition of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is a part of the U.S. Department of Transportation that makes sure cars and their parts are safe. They work on things like preventing car theft, setting speed limits, making sure the odometer shows the right mileage, and helping cars use fuel efficiently. NHTSA was created in 1970 by a law called the Highway Safety Act.

A more thorough explanation:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is a part of the U.S. Department of Transportation. Its main job is to make sure that motor vehicles and their equipment are safe for people to use. The agency works on things like preventing theft, setting speed limits, making sure odometer readings are accurate, and improving fuel consumption.

For example, the NHTSA might set a speed limit of 55 miles per hour on a certain road to make it safer for drivers. They might also require car manufacturers to install anti-theft devices to prevent cars from being stolen. These are just a few examples of the many things the NHTSA does to keep people safe on the road.
