Simple English definitions for legal terms

outlawry

Read a random definition: episcopalia

A quick definition of outlawry:

Outlawry: When someone breaks the law, they may be punished by being deprived of the benefits and protection of the law. This means they are no longer considered a part of society and may be treated as an outlaw. Outlawry can also refer to disobeying the law altogether.

A more thorough explanation:

Definition: Outlawry is the act of taking away someone's legal rights and protection. It can also refer to the state of being an outlaw, or someone who has been declared outside the law. It can also mean breaking the law.

1. In medieval times, outlawry was a punishment for serious crimes like murder or treason. The person would be declared an outlaw and could be killed by anyone without legal consequences.

2. Today, outlawry can refer to someone who is on the run from the law and has no legal protection. They may be hiding from the police or living in a different country to avoid arrest.

3. Breaking the law can also be considered outlawry. For example, if someone steals something or drives under the influence of drugs or alcohol, they are breaking the law and could face outlawry.

These examples illustrate how outlawry can refer to both a legal punishment and a state of being outside the law. It shows how someone who is an outlaw has no legal protection and can be punished without consequence. Breaking the law can also lead to outlawry and the loss of legal rights and protection.

@mastermonkey45: Looking at some of the recent decisions in relation to when they went complete, I'd say it's a good sign. It seems many declines were sent within about 5-6 weeks of completion. Given those were applications that were SENT in January, I'd say that means you're still solidly in the running. :)

Sent an app to OSU in early december and have STILL not heard back
