survey of a vessel

Read a random definition: ordinary-observer test

A quick definition of survey of a vessel:

A survey of a vessel is an assessment of the current condition of a ship or cargo. It is like a check-up for a boat to make sure everything is working properly and there are no damages. This is important for safety reasons and to make sure the ship is ready for its next journey. It is like going to the doctor for a check-up to make sure you are healthy and ready for your next adventure.

A more thorough explanation:

A survey of a vessel is an assessment of the current condition of a ship or cargo. This is important in maritime law to ensure that the vessel is safe to operate and that the cargo is secure.

  • A shipping company hires a surveyor to inspect their cargo ship before it sets sail. The surveyor checks the hull, machinery, and equipment to make sure everything is in good working order.
  • After a storm, a yacht owner requests a survey of their boat to assess any damage that may have occurred. The surveyor checks for any structural damage or leaks that could compromise the safety of the vessel.

These examples illustrate how a survey of a vessel is used to ensure the safety and security of ships and their cargo. By conducting a thorough assessment, potential issues can be identified and addressed before they become a problem.

@mastermonkey45: Looking at some of the recent decisions in relation to when they went complete, I'd say it's a good sign. It seems many declines were sent within about 5-6 weeks of completion. Given those were applications that were SENT in January, I'd say that means you're still solidly in the running. :)
