baddestbunny
13:12
okay I have to go write
letsseehowitgoesnow
13:12
idk how many people at CC took those classes lol

goodluck!
baddestbunny
13:12
dude you should read novelist as a vocation by murakami
baddestbunny
13:13
read it last night and found his perspective very motivating in terms of writing my essays
13:14
I read Murakami's running book. It was a good read as a runner
13:15
It's like one third memoir, two thirds running log
baddestbunny
13:15
did he talk about perving on girls in that one? someone told me he did
baddestbunny
13:15
he said that looking at girls was his inspiration for running or something?
13:15
A little. He thought the college runner girls in boston were cute on his run but that's it
13:16
he didn't say cute from what I remember. More like an abundance of youth or something like that lol
baddestbunny
13:16
I think it’s really cool that when he was thirty he decided he could write a novel and he just did
13:16
I liked the Murakami one where he talks about the first Brahms Piano Concerto
13:17
It's structured as an interview
13:17
Good read
13:17
The main thing that stuck with me was that he said his biggest strength in life was his stamina, not intelligence.
baddestbunny
13:17
he talks about Brahms in this one too. he used to run a jazz club for like ten years and is very deeply invested in music
13:17
He would close his jazz bar at like 2-3am then go home and write for an hour or two
baddestbunny
13:18
@BruceSutter: he says in this one that he decided at 30 that he could write a novel and he proceeded to do so. he thinks most people could write at least one novel but it takes stamina to keep going. there’s some level of inherent talent required to be successful but most people can at least produce a novel
baddestbunny
13:19
anyways 1Q84 is goated. my fav of his works
13:19
I could definitely write a novel. It would be terribly written trash but I know I could write a 250ish page story
baddestbunny
13:19
yeah exactly
baddestbunny
13:20
also liked how he developed his writing style by trying to write in English and then translating it back to Japanese. he says the sparseness of writing in a second language you’re less familiar with creates greater clarity of purpose and style
baddestbunny
13:20
I could do that with my PS and try to write in chinese then translate back
13:22
we own norwegian wood but I haven't read it. It's on the long list of books I'll read whenever I get around to regularly reading
baddestbunny
13:22
I read a lot because I lack a sustained vision for my life
baddestbunny
13:23
I liked Norwegian wood. good melancholy read for fall/winter
