@CurvyHypnoticSheepdog: I think a lot of cultures have a caste system just aren't as overt. Met plenty of people who are not allowed to date outside of their financial standings
@BulbasaurNoLikeCardio: yeahhh my mom is a brahmin (top caste in hinduism) and my dad is christian so you can imagine the rift that dates back to the 90s🤣
@JumpySubsequentDolphin: it baffles me as well bc i’ve seen it with some of my cousins and aunts/uncles. obviously didn’t happen with my parents since my mom was more or less exiled from her house after marrying my dad lmao

Okay unrelated question: If a School offers reconsideration for scholarship it would be in the statement of procedures right?

yeah me neither paying dowry is always the woman’s family from what I’ve seen
@JumpySubsequentDolphin: i remember i stayed with some family in oman for a couple of months and that’s where i discovered the concept of men paying dowry but until then i always assumed the woman or her family paid it. beautiful place by the way- really hospitable people who actually saved my life, love it there

@lilypadfrog: well the arabic word translates to dowry but idk

@BulbasaurNoLikeCardio: Very true. I have 12 members of my family who were either navy or marine so I do understand it from that standpoint. Well if you don't have at least 5 pieces of metal in you, you should be young still lol is what my Grandpa said.
A dowry is dad paying husband to take his daughter so he can afford bringing in a new mouth to feed and all that

@BulbasaurNoLikeCardio: see for us its more like protection for the woman. we have two parts, the upfront payment and the delayed payment which is guaranteed to the woman even in event of a divorce. it's supposed to make the girl's father feel at ease that his daughter will be taken care of financially
lilypadfrog
11:43
interesting. does this still apply if you don’t have a dad
JumpySubsequentDolphin
11:43
yes hahaha

@JumpySubsequentDolphin: In the environment I've grown up in, dowry in the traditional sense is seen in the formation of the wedding but there is no $$$ gift made to the husband's family. We do have dower though which is a legal provision for the women in the case of the husband's death.
JumpySubsequentDolphin

@lilypadfrog: i think if the dad is not in the picture then the uncle or big brother handles it
JumpySubsequentDolphin

@GodsPlanUltimately: interestinggggg
JumpySubsequentDolphin
11:44
yeah the bride/bride's family paying for the wedding is bizarre to me too
