he talks about Brahms in this one too. he used to run a jazz club for like ten years and is very deeply invested in music

@BruceSutter: he says in this one that he decided at 30 that he could write a novel and he proceeded to do so. he thinks most people could write at least one novel but it takes stamina to keep going. there’s some level of inherent talent required to be successful but most people can at least produce a novel

also liked how he developed his writing style by trying to write in English and then translating it back to Japanese. he says the sparseness of writing in a second language you’re less familiar with creates greater clarity of purpose and style

we own norwegian wood but I haven't read it. It's on the long list of books I'll read whenever I get around to regularly reading
