oh yeah dk i read the book too before i went to see the film which i probably shouldn't have considering i was 9

i actually got in trouble in third grade because i wrote a book report on clockwork orange and they thought my parents were abusing me by introducing me to this literature too early
Life of Pi I read the book in like 5th grade and I never understood the scene where he bites into a fruit and there is a human tooth in it. Not in the movie but in the book there is that scene. Everyone skips the analysis of that part of the book online and I still want to know what it means but I can not find any good analysis.
@jackfrost11770: honestly, I hate a clockwork orange. That should not be literature or a movie. Disgusting.

20:09
oh god i can't remember it at all but ill read it again and get back to you on that lol
20:09
maybe his tooth fell out when he bit the fruit because he’s a little kid who still has his first teeth? I haven’t read it
Nah don't read it again. Things are usually only worth doing once in life to me. Do not put that pressure on yourself.

i disagree heavily but i'm on message limit damn. LOL i will say though, i despise chuck palahnuik and everything he stands for, that type of edgy violence for the sake of pushing the status quo and nothing else loses meaning and makes it devoid of any nuanced social commentary it says it is. makes an easy excuse to say "you don't get it" as opposed to admitting it's just garbage and violent for no reason other than fetishizing
20:11
Okay sure fuck Chuck palahnuik I still like the end scene of the movie fight club though. You met me at a very strange time in my life.
Man I love that! Completely agree. I also hate the people who are walking contradictions of that kinda stuff. People who consume staged violence but when you talk about real violence they can not stomach it.
jackfrost11770
20:11
and i love body horror and gore as a way of commenting on things like quos eg hellraiser, videodrome, etc but when you write this type of stuff it has to not fall into the trap of the only meaningful boundary being crosses being censorship
staged violence = fake, real violence = real
20:12
man I fuckijg love david cronenberg
i like staged hyperviolence, i abhor real violence
also zombie movies are goated because then there's no moral quandry about the violence
Yeah which is why you eat chipotle wasp, we are not the same.
I can get behind some of the ideas Chuck espouses but they go too far.
jackfrost11770
20:14
cherie i'm on message limit but i could talk about cronenberg foreverrrrrr and body horror. i love tokyo gore police, obviously extremely violent and gory, but i read a very interesting analysis on it being a commentary on japanese isolationism and western stereotyping
Violence is the last resort and should only be employed when civil discourse is impossible
jackfrost11770

WORST CONVO TO BE LIMITED FOR i feel the same way about harlan ellison. i like him more than palahnuik and i think some of his works, like deathbird, are incredibly humanizing and raw, but definitely can often fall into the trap of edginess for its sake. also he was a terrible person lmao
It should also be employed when civil discourse is possible. It should be employed when one party refuses to compromise with the other despite having every reason or opportunity to compromise. This is what I mean when I say liberalism is a bumper sticker world view. It's not that simple and that is not how history nor humanity has ever worked.
Body horror is dumb. There are many horrible things that can happen to a body without some fictional shit. It's the same ignorant slop as fake violence. Cronenberg, though I have never seen any of his films is someone I never heard of until Bunny recommended me crash and the synopsis seemed stupid so I aint going for that guy either.
jackfrost11770
20:22
i will be brief otherwise i will talk forever but i think using the physical as a way to force an audience to see what you are trying to say underneath it can be extremely interesting. i love body horror obviously because of my own experiences w myself, but to distort something that we all share (a body, right) in a way that forcibly "others" it is a great way to comment on underlying social structures that make us do the same just unconsciously or unintentionally etc
Should just watch 4Chan Rekt threads for boddy horror and violence. Here is an archive: https://lomsor.com/4chan/Archiv/4chan/b/653298331/653298331.html
20:23
I feel like Dk has trouble with theoreticals sometimes
Nah like I said read Schopenhauer bunny. It's important to learn what is worth your time and what is not. The theoretical is often times wrong and a waste of time. Can learn a lot more from just observing reality.
jackfrost11770
20:24
lol ya. i'm not talking terrifier shit that's ass i'm talking about another class of film haha
20:24
jackfrost I really like your commentary on this. like how does it feel to be changed? what kind of relationship do you have with the new form? what does it mean to not be recognizable to yourself?
