i do agree, i do think him tying every school is so funny
jackfrost11770
19:02
but that's how it is in the real rankings too so
@jackfrost11770: so now every school wants people who pass the bar first try and are employed within a year? WE chads eating well rn
19:03
now why does having a higher cost of attendance help your ranking? kinda seems like we should disincentivize this
jackfrost11770
19:03
right .....
Yeah, I would have to disagree with the financial bs in this report.
19:04
it’s just bizarre. is the idea that students are willing to pay more for a higher quality school? surely it would be better to calculate cost effectiveness as the cost relates to job placement, bar passage rates, etc.
jackfrost11770
19:04
isn't it the opposite i remember reading that higher scholarship money or finaid helps your rankings on USNWR
jackfrost11770
19:05
or i mean those are two separate data points i suppose
19:09
they don’t mention cost of attendance or scholarships given as a considered factor in their methodology

this guy is definitely trying to say something and wording it very poorly
19:15
oh okay so his point is just that they used to consider expenditures per student as a factor, which helped H&Y bc they have greater endowments/higher tuition costs, and now they don’t and this will hurt them. and also that this is the only major self-reported factor that would have been affected by boycotting
why do US News rankings matter more than any other ranking
Genuine question
19:16
I think because they have more access to lawyers, judges, etc. to evaluate peer opinions on law schools, access to data that other sources may not, and also have just been considered the authority for a long time
Interesting
do yall see the prestige status of ivies changing in the next few decades or no
19:18
https://abovethelaw.com/2011/02/latest-cooley-law-school-rankings-achieve-new-heights-of-intellectual-dishonesty/ they’re a standardized and allegedly impartial ranking system. law schools and outside sources sometimes try to create their own rankings to promote an agenda, ex: above

@Babyricotta45: I mean, it's not really valued as highly on the west coast as just going to berk or ucla so yeah, I think it already kinda sucks.
19:20
Obsessed with the 2009 ranking Cooley came up with: 1. Harvard University 2. Georgetown University 3. New York University 4. University of Virginia 5. University of Texas 6. University of Michigan 7. Northwestern University 8. Columbia University 9. Yale Law School 10. George Washington University 11. University of Minnesota 12. Thomas M. Cooley Law School 13. Fordham University 14. University of California-Los Angeles 15. American University 16. University of Pennsylvania 17. University of California-Hastings 18. Stanford University 19. University of Maryland 20. University of California-Berkeley

19:21
Could also go to Stanford and USC and people would like that more than going to an Ivy on the east coast.
jackfrost11770
19:21
i don't think so baby ricotta like ivies are ivies
@cheriebomb: damn cornell not even t20

@cheriebomb: Yep, that makes more sense.
