i think even lay prestige varies. my parents are immigrants they literally just know the ivies, if i told them nyu was a better law school than cornell they'd think im lying
jackfrost11770
19:33
they didn't know what georgetown was either lmao
jackfrost11770
19:33
and i agree dkk
anyone know where i can find LSAT's guidelines on their sources for logical reasoning concepts
19:34
In some ways it may be more meritocratic to admit based on stats than Yale’s methodology where you must be an Ivy League grad, veteran, or both
Dkk
19:36
Just don't hire or refuse to work with people from those schools in the future. It's that simple and it will help future generations. Don't do what the boomers did and create a society where you get the worst of everything.
or to rephrase, the main source of their formal logic concepts
Dkk
19:36
Punish prestige. Punish the boomer mindset and grindset.
well lots of people are successful without ivy degrees obviously, its not guaranteed success nor is it required
yes obvious statement but more true now than ever before
windyMagician
19:37
one thing I'll give conservatives is that theyre much less obsessed with prestige than liberals
Seems kinda contradictory to true progressivism
windyMagician
19:38
if you look at elite liberal spaces its almost entirely ivy league grads and I dont observe the same patterns in elite conservative spaces. seems like there's more upward mobility
Caring about hierarchies
jackfrost11770
19:39
i don't think that's true at all windy
jackfrost11770
19:40
conservatives give the false appearance of being the working man but the actually people in positions of power are a million percent not just ivy league grads but the one percent of the one percent
jackfrost11770
19:40
elite conservative spaces are extremely elite and inaccessible
19:41
There is a lot of built-up resentment against ivory tower Ivy Leaguers who are out of touch with the working man. Conservatives are better at identifying themselves with this sentiment regardless of whether they originate from privileged backgrounds
windyMagician
19:42
idk it seems like becoming a Biden white House intern is infinitely harder than becoming a trump wh intern for instance
both sides are elite and inaccessible to a degree, but i think liberals in this context are less forthcoming about how they truly care about equality and inclusion, conservatives are more crass but honest (I'm neither of these for these reasons)
Some of the worst people ive met are those who weaponize social justice issues to use as a shield to act like a piece of shit
19:45
I have never been in elite conservative spaces but have def felt underestimated and alienated in liberal spaces. An Ivy League degree is kind of like a certificate of your worth to people and if you don’t have that you have to work harder to make them care about anything you have to say. This is hardly unique to liberals or to politics
Dkk
19:46
Indeed, in conservative society you should have classes of people and there should be opportunities for mobility for everyone. However this is not to say there is no need for merit. You need more merit to move up and up and it should be harder to move up as you go higher and higher. The top should be very difficult to get to but the top is perverted by a uniparty of both liberals and conservatives who do not deserve what they have and would have normally been pushed out by merit by now. That's why it's important to still have violence in society. Duels and whatnot.
Dkk
19:47
Man I love watching the movie Dune!
19:48
I think your main issue here is conflating violence and merit. The most violent people are not inherently the most worthy of power
19:48
whoever shoots the ceo gets to be the next ceo, is what you're saying
19:48
Luigi this is your moment to shine
Dkk
19:49
Nah, if someone is truly violent for no reason they will get shut down pretty quickly by others in society. Social contract bullshit
@oakenrays: no cus they need consent too
I have explained this 3 times now here and I still get that every time. Some might makes right argument. Robert Redbeard or whatever his name was.
