…benefit splitters like myself. I have some pretty solid softs, I’ve worked in federal government and have been in the military for the past 9 years. If you have experiences that you believe set you apart it’s important to emphasize that in your application. I interviewed with Villanova which I think helped me alot,…
I wrote a “Why X” for every school at the bottom of my personal statement, about a paragraph for each. T3 softs because I did Americorps.
softs: undergrad hnrs major, master’s degree + int’l fellowship lots of on-campus leadership, ccn (lol) alum but don’t think it really mattered possibly cool internship experience(s), worked while doing apps (WE ~1 year) fairly strong personal statement (spent a LOT of time on it), avg supplementary essays, bad yale…
…your passion! Your story will write itself with time. Softs really can move the needle. On that note, my interviews were far from ideal and I did notice typos on my apps afterwards, but it worked out. It’s really important to come off authentic and personable to admissions
Wrote Why X and Optional Essays whenever they asked for one. Pretty meh softs. Crazy, crazy COVID cycle.
Wrote why X/supplemental essay for Georgetown, NYU, UVA, Michigan, Penn, Stanford, Duke, UCLA First Gen, but then T4 softs Double humanities major and a minor from prestigious liberal arts school, multiple published academic papers, extensive volunteer and club involvement GPA actually went down .01 after first…

Wrote optional essays when applicable Cohesive PI narrative in PS and softs Published academic in a PI field
Applied to every school under the sun because I was hunting that sweet $$$$. Take advantage of fee waivers. No special softs, but strong public service resume, solid recommendations, and creative essay topic. Proud to have two T14 A’s in the cycle from hell.
STEM major/business minor. Otherwise, fairly average softs (legal & financial internships, volunteer work, club leadership positions, TA experience, etc). T20 undergrad. Did not apply for aid at NYU, Duke, or Northwestern.
…as much. Also, if you’re a reverse splitter like me, those softs can be the world. I seriously believe I performed the way I did because of them, because my LSAT sure wasn’t doing any favors lol
WE in litigation support; Political Science major at state flagship university; run-of-the-mill softs during undergrad; wrote GPA addendum about medical condition. I wrote optional essays for: Duke Michigan UCLA Georgetown Good luck to any lurking future applicants!
…not write a DS (felt it would mirror my PS too closely). Softs are** very mediocre (no organization involvement, closest I have was being a member of the UF Ultimate Frisbee team. My lack of involvement was primarily due to COVID** forcing school into an online format for an entire year, but also due to my…
If you’re an international applicant w/o a GPA, your best shot is at schools where your LSAT score is at or above 75ths. (Especially if you have mediocre softs like I do!) Also, 2020 was the worst year to R&R. ha ha ha learn from my mistakes im not crying you are
R&R cycle! Last year, applied with a 165. Softs: Work at DOJ for 2+ years in Antitrust; Goals: Government work in the DC area; I was really interested in government/PI work and remaining in the DC area after law school, so Georgetown, GW, and George Mason were the best fits for me. Georgetown: Interviewed mid…

…my LSAT being lower than their medians. No crazy special softs, just had solid work experience, decent leadership opportunities and niche interests. A cohesive narrative definitely goes a long way. This process can be tough and disheartening. All we can do is try our best n shoot that shot. Good luck🫡
