Admitted to Fordham UniversityI recommend LSAT Demon to study! You don’t need legal experience, but you should have a cohesive narrative explaining “why law, why now.” Write all optional essays that pertain to you. Apply broadly to negotiate aid and don’t be afraid to ask! Consider overall COA and location when rankings and scholarships are…
UMN UR3: 01/12 UR4: 01/25 UVA UR3: 01/17, Interview on 01/23; UR4 01/23 UR5 01/24 Georgetown Interview: 01/22 Committed to Berkeley originally but got a feeler call from Michigan which was my first choice going into the cycle. I decided to visit the school and set up a campus visit. 3 days later, I got the call!…
Be practical about where you’re applying. Interest rates are high, the job market is tightening, and even those who get jobs in big law regularly refer to their situation as “golden handcuffs.” Where you go to law school does not define the ceiling of your success as an attorney, but having well over six figures of…
7 years of (not law-related) work in media and marketing. Freelance journalism on the side. Average extracurriculars during undergrad, slightly more interesting post-grad volunteering experience with NGOs/educational institutions. LGBTQ. Wrote why essays for NYU & Columbia playing on my connection to the city.…
splitters beware: apply early! i don’t think i ever had a great shot at columbia/nyu/ucla/usc, but i snuck into one of them with a good narrative and a good “why me / why now”. but don’t listen to the people who say 173 is competitive everywhere. it’s not. the earlier you apply, the more you can get away with…
Don’t be shy to ask for fee waivers from all schools that have that option. Some schools have a form you can fill out for need/merit fee waivers and are very generous. Ask for your recommendations as early as possible, and try to give a due date of a few weeks to a month before you intend to submit to account for…
Look at my results… future generations shouldn’t heed any wisdom I leave behind.
If you have a C&F issue related to your undergrad’s academic code, certain schools will require a letter from a dean, and won’t process your application as complete until they have received this letter. Plan ahead!
Wrote Why X/ Optional Essays for all schools BC and higher on my list except NYU (added a personalized paragraph to my PS instead) and ASU Fee waivers: some through LSAC, some solicited by asking to alleviate the financial burden of applying , some solicited based on merit once I emailed the school my fellowship…
I think I likely underperformed, but the C&F issues definitely came back to bite me. I think my advice would be you are better off waiting a few years with WE than applying as a KJD, especially when there are negative aspects in you application (Low GPA or C&F). Show growth and maturity rather than say it in you…
My work experience is in government affairs analyzing and advocating for or against legislation on behalf of corporate and nonprofit clients. First generation college student. Graduated undergrad in 3 years with a double major and a minor. Worked full time while in college. Wrote optional diversity essays for BU and…
Admissions is about distinguishing yourself from others. So do this in any way possible, whether that’s through a high LSAT, unusual resume, or interesting personal statement. Basically, do everything in your power to make the admissions officer remember YOU (in a good way) out of the stack of 40 files they just read.
I have always thought that one man of tolerable abilities may work great changes, and accomplish great affairs among mankind if he first forms a good plan, and, cutting off all amusements or other employments that would divert his attention, makes the execution of that same plan his sole study and business. Enjoy the little things in life. Law school is tough and working in law is no easy journey. The job can be stressful and take a toll on your health. I find that being grateful for the most basic things in life is a great way to manage the stress and intensity and even turn them into positive forms of reinforcement.
second time applying. originally aubreyplaza. 2023-2024 timeline: 11/20/2023 - app submitted- 04/03/2024 - LOCI submitted 05/22/2024 - resume updated 07/03/2024 - LOCI submitted 07/11/2024 - offer extended verbally 07/11/2024 - acceptance + scholarship uploaded on portal excited to be going to vandy!
It’s super easy to obsess over status checkers, Reddit, and LSD (I’m guilty of it) but try to enjoy your life as well. You’re going to get into the right place for you! Congrats on even applying- that’s more than a lot of people ever do. Good luck and if you haven’t heard it today, I’m proud of you.
Don’t be weird. The stats matter less if you’ve actually done cool shit.
