Simple English definitions for legal terms

a cause de cy

A quick definition of a cause de cy:

Term: A CAUSE DE CY

Definition: A cause de cy is a legal term that means "for this reason." It is often used in legal documents to explain why a certain decision or action was taken. For example, if a judge grants a request for a restraining order, they may state that it was granted a cause de cy, meaning that it was granted for a specific reason. This term comes from Law French, which was a language used in legal documents in England and France during the Middle Ages.

A more thorough explanation:

Term: A CAUSE DE CY

Definition:a cause de cy (ay kaw-zə də see), adv.[Law French] For this reason.

Examples:

  • The defendant was unable to attend the hearing, a cause de cy.
  • The judge granted the plaintiff's request, a cause de cy.

These examples illustrate how a cause de cy is used to explain the reason for a decision or action. In the first example, the defendant's absence from the hearing was the reason for their inability to attend. In the second example, the plaintiff's request was granted for a specific reason, which is not stated but can be inferred from the use of a cause de cy.

@mastermonkey45: Looking at some of the recent decisions in relation to when they went complete, I'd say it's a good sign. It seems many declines were sent within about 5-6 weeks of completion. Given those were applications that were SENT in January, I'd say that means you're still solidly in the running. :)

Sent an app to OSU in early december and have STILL not heard back
