Simple English definitions for legal terms

applicando singula singulis

Read a random definition: ad culpam

A quick definition of applicando singula singulis:

Applicando singula singulis is a Latin phrase that means applying each condition to each. It was commonly used in legal documents to indicate that each condition or requirement should be applied separately and not collectively. For example, if a contract had multiple conditions, each condition would be applied individually rather than as a group.

A more thorough explanation:

applicando singula singulis

Applicando singula singulis is a Latin phrase that means applying each to each. It was commonly used in legal documents to indicate that each condition should be applied to its corresponding element.

  • In a contract, applicando singula singulis would mean that each clause should be applied to its corresponding party. For example, if the contract states that party A will provide a service and party B will pay for it, applicando singula singulis would mean that party A is only obligated to provide the service if party B pays for it.
  • In a lease agreement, applicando singula singulis would mean that each term should be applied to its corresponding obligation. For example, if the lease states that the tenant is responsible for paying rent and maintaining the property, applicando singula singulis would mean that the landlord cannot hold the tenant responsible for property maintenance if the tenant is not in arrears on rent payments.

These examples illustrate how applicando singula singulis was used to ensure that each element of a legal document was applied to its corresponding obligation or condition.

@s95: My cousin is an immigration attorney who recently argued in front of the supreme court. He attended the University of Houston for law school. There are so many good schools for immigration law, countless clinics.

@s95: The higher the rank though basically means more opportunities possibly with a debt trade off. It's hard for me to say more without knowing your goals though. Awesome you already have an idea what you want to do as a lawyer!

17:06
I would research immigration law clinics
@s95: generally school specialties are kind of silly. it’s usually the rank of the school that determines the opportunities you can get from it across the board
with caveats for strong regional schools with a regional focus and so on

@s95 University of San Diego

USD actually does really well for immigration in the SoCal region, and is known to have a great clinic.
