Simple English definitions for legal terms

booking

Read a random definition: chief magistrate

A quick definition of booking:

Booking: When someone is arrested by the police, they go through a process called booking. This means that the police take their fingerprints, pictures, and personal information, and check if they have any other warrants or crimes they are suspected of. The person's belongings are taken away and they are searched for any dangerous items. They are given a uniform to wear and checked by a doctor to make sure they are healthy. Finally, they are put in jail until they can pay bail or their trial is over.

A more thorough explanation:

Booking is the process of recording information about a person who has been arrested. This information includes their personal details, fingerprints, and photographs. The police also search for any outstanding warrants and take away the person's personal belongings, except for items that are illegal or evidence of the alleged crime. The person is then given a uniform to wear until they are released. Medical screenings are also conducted to ensure that the person is healthy and not a threat to themselves or others.

When John was arrested for shoplifting, he was taken to the police station for booking. The police took his fingerprints and photograph, searched for any outstanding warrants, and took away his personal belongings. They also gave him a uniform to wear and conducted a medical screening to make sure he was healthy.

Another example is when Sarah was arrested for driving under the influence. She was taken to the police station for booking, where the police recorded her personal details, took her fingerprints and photograph, and searched for any outstanding warrants. They also took away her personal belongings and gave her a uniform to wear. A medical screening was conducted to ensure that she was healthy and not a threat to herself or others.

These examples illustrate the process of booking and the steps that are taken by the police to record information about a person who has been arrested. It is an important part of the criminal justice system and helps to ensure that suspects are processed in a fair and consistent manner.

@mastermonkey45: Looking at some of the recent decisions in relation to when they went complete, I'd say it's a good sign. It seems many declines were sent within about 5-6 weeks of completion. Given those were applications that were SENT in January, I'd say that means you're still solidly in the running. :)

Sent an app to OSU in early december and have STILL not heard back
