Simple English definitions for legal terms

capricious

Read a random definition: act of honor

A quick definition of capricious:

Capricious: When someone is capricious, they can suddenly change their mind or behavior in a way that is hard to predict. This can be a problem in legal cases, where it is important for decisions to be fair and based on facts. If a decision is called "arbitrary and capricious," it means that it was made without good reason or consideration of the facts. This can be reviewed by a higher court to make sure the decision was fair.

A more thorough explanation:

To be capricious means to have sudden and unpredictable changes in attitude or behavior. This can refer to a person or an organization.

In legal terms, capricious behavior is defined as arbitrary and unreasonable action without consideration for the facts and circumstances. This standard is often used in administrative law and judicial review.

For example, if a government agency makes a decision without considering all the relevant factors, it could be considered capricious. Similarly, if a judge makes a ruling without adequate consideration of the circumstances, it could also be considered capricious.

Overall, capricious behavior is characterized by a lack of consistency and rational decision-making. It can be frustrating and difficult to deal with, especially in legal contexts where decisions can have significant consequences.

@mastermonkey45: Looking at some of the recent decisions in relation to when they went complete, I'd say it's a good sign. It seems many declines were sent within about 5-6 weeks of completion. Given those were applications that were SENT in January, I'd say that means you're still solidly in the running. :)

Sent an app to OSU in early december and have STILL not heard back
Give it 4 more weeks at least. Everyone in this chat needs to wait longer.
