de ambitu

Read a random definition: false-implication libel

A quick definition of de ambitu:

Term: DE AMBITU

Definition: De ambitu means using sneaky and dishonest ways to get a job or position, often by giving money or gifts to people who have the power to give you the job. In ancient Rome, there were laws against this kind of behavior, like the Lex Julia de Ambitu, which made it illegal to bribe people during elections.

A more thorough explanation:

Definition: De ambitu (dee am-bi-tyoo) is a Latin term that means "of going around." It refers to the devious methods used to secure a position, such as through bribery. In ancient Rome, several laws, such as the Lex Julia de Ambitu, were created to prevent electoral bribery.

  • A politician offers money to voters in exchange for their support in an election.
  • A candidate promises a job or other favors to someone in exchange for their vote.

These examples illustrate the definition of de ambitu because they show how people use devious methods, such as bribery, to gain a position of power. In ancient Rome, laws were created to prevent these types of actions from occurring during elections.
