In a legal context, a person is considered decrepit if they are significantly impaired, either physically or mentally, to such an extent that they would be unable to defend themselves or effectively resist an attack from an individual of ordinary health and strength.

• Imagine an elderly individual in their late 80s who suffers from severe osteoporosis, uses a wheelchair for mobility, and has very limited upper body strength. Due to their fragile bones and inability to move quickly or exert force, they would be utterly helpless if confronted by an average healthy adult.

  This illustrates a decrepit state because their profound physical frailty and immobility render them incapable of self-defense against a person of ordinary health and strength.

• Consider a person with advanced stages of a debilitating neurological disease, such as late-stage Parkinson's disease, which has severely impacted their motor control, balance, and cognitive processing. They might experience frequent falls, have difficulty speaking, and be largely confined to a bed or specialized chair.

  This individual would be considered decrepit because their extensive physical and mental deterioration makes them unable to effectively respond to or resist any physical aggression from an average person.

• Think of an adult who has suffered a massive stroke resulting in complete paralysis on one side of their body and severe aphasia (inability to understand or express speech). While they might be conscious, their physical limitations prevent them from moving purposefully, and their communication impairment hinders their ability to call for help or understand a threat.

  This scenario demonstrates a decrepit condition as the individual's severe physical disability and communication barrier would leave them entirely vulnerable and unable to protect themselves in a conflict with an able-bodied person.
