A delayed appeal is a legal process where a party requests a higher court to review and possibly reverse a lower court's decision after the time for appealing has expired. However, the reviewing court may grant permission for a delayed appeal due to special circumstances.
For example, if a person was unable to file an appeal within the required time due to a serious illness or other valid reasons, the reviewing court may allow a delayed appeal.
Delayed appeals are different from appeals by right, where permission to appeal is not required, and appeals by application, where permission must be obtained from the reviewing court.
