A quick definition of détente:

Term: DÉTENTE

Definition: Détente means to relax tensions between two or more groups, especially countries. It can also refer to a policy that promotes this relaxation of tensions or a period of time when tensions are relaxed. It is similar to the idea of making peace or becoming friends after a disagreement.

Related terms: Entente, alliance

A more thorough explanation:

Definition: Détente (day-tahnt) is a French term that refers to the relaxation of tensions between two or more parties, especially nations. It can also refer to a policy that promotes such a relaxation of tensions or a period during which such tensions are relaxed. It is different from an alliance or entente, which are formal agreements between nations.

One example of détente is the period of improved relations between the United States and the Soviet Union during the 1970s. This period was marked by arms control agreements and increased cultural exchanges between the two nations.

Another example is the recent détente between North and South Korea, which has led to talks between the two nations and a joint participation in the 2018 Winter Olympics.

These examples illustrate how détente can lead to improved relations between nations and a reduction in tensions. It can also lead to increased cooperation and communication between nations, which can help to prevent conflicts and promote peace.

@mastermonkey45: Looking at some of the recent decisions in relation to when they went complete, I'd say it's a good sign. It seems many declines were sent within about 5-6 weeks of completion. Given those were applications that were SENT in January, I'd say that means you're still solidly in the running. :)

Sent an app to OSU in early december and have STILL not heard back
