When something is applied or understood disjunctim, it means that each part, person, or condition is considered individually, rather than as a collective whole. This contrasts with situations where elements are considered jointly or together.

• Imagine a business contract between a client and two independent consultants, Alex and Ben, for a project. The contract states that Alex and Ben are responsible for delivering their respective parts of the project disjunctim.

  This means that if Alex fails to complete his assigned tasks, only Alex is considered in breach of contract for his portion, and Ben is not held responsible for Alex's failure. Their obligations are separate and individual, not shared.

• A court issues a ruling against three individuals, Sarah, Mark, and Emily, for separate but related violations. The judge orders each person to pay a fine disjunctim.

  This signifies that Sarah must pay her fine, Mark must pay his fine, and Emily must pay hers, independently. No one is responsible for another's fine; their financial penalties are distinct and individual.
