Simple English definitions for legal terms

FAC

Read a random definition: infeftment

A quick definition of FAC:

Term: FAC

Definition: FAC stands for "Failure to Answer a Citation." This means that if someone gets a ticket for a traffic violation and doesn't respond to it, the court will tell the government agency in charge of driver's licenses. That agency will then suspend the person's driver's license until they pay any fines or fees and take care of the citation.

A more thorough explanation:

FAC

FAC stands for "Failure to Answer a Citation". It refers to the situation where someone receives a traffic ticket but fails to respond to it.

In some places, if you don't respond to a ticket, the court will notify an administrative agency. This agency will then record the information and suspend your driver's license until you take care of the ticket and pay any fines or fees.

Example 1: John received a speeding ticket but forgot about it. He didn't pay the fine or show up in court. As a result, his driver's license was suspended due to FAC.

Example 2: Mary received a parking ticket but thought it was unfair. She decided not to pay it or contest it in court. Her driver's license was suspended due to FAC.

These examples illustrate how failing to respond to a traffic citation can lead to a suspension of your driver's license. It's important to take care of any tickets you receive to avoid this consequence.

But do people get in without addresses going long?

The "date changes" at Michigan really don't mean anything. We had to do them in undergrad admissions whenever a Georgia applicant picked the country instead of the state, because we'd have to remove the TOEFL requirement and reassign the application from the international application readers.

Classy, does that mean they may look at your application, and that look doesn't necessarily trigger any date change?

@soapy: I don't know for sure about the law school. For undergrad, once the application is complete, it's assigned to a reader the following Monday. If we had to make any changes, it's because a reader saw something that needed to be changed and the application needed to be re-read after that change.

Ahh, got it. Thank you for the insight!

You're welcome. FWIW, I have no idea what's up with the address changes. We didn't have to do any of that, except for the Georgia state vs country kinds of things.

I've heard it theorized that some schools will change the address from "St." --> "Street" as they prepare to send out admissions packets. That's the rumor, anyways.
i think it just indicates a change in status like under review or stages of review
my stanford address went long as soon as it was marked complete lmao

I saw some Reddit adcom say that they can see any time we refresh the status checker; I wonder if it's a red flag if an applicant's checked it like 50 times in a day?

Also, can we send another LoR to a school that we've already applied to?
