A garauntor was a historical legal term referring to an individual who guaranteed the title and possession of land to a buyer (known as the "alienee"). Essentially, the garauntor promised to defend the buyer's right to own and occupy the land. If the buyer was legally removed from the land (evicted) because the seller's claim to the land was found to be invalid or inferior, the garauntor was obligated to provide the buyer with other land of equivalent value as compensation. This role was crucial in historical land transactions to provide security for the buyer.
