Simple English definitions for legal terms

half section

Read a random definition: Section 1981

A quick definition of half section:

A half section is a piece of land that contains 320 acres. It is usually divided by a north-south or east-west line and is half of a section of land, which traditionally contained 640 acres. A quarter section is even smaller, containing 160 acres and is one quarter of a section of land. This was the amount of land usually granted to homesteaders in the past.

A more thorough explanation:

A half section is a piece of land that contains 320 acres. It is a division of a section of land, which traditionally contains 640 acres or one square mile. The term "section" is commonly used in real estate and public lands in the United States.

For example, if a section of land is divided into two equal parts by a north-south or east-west line, each part is called a half section. Similarly, a quarter section is a piece of land containing 160 acres, which is one quarter of a section of land.

These divisions of land are important in real estate transactions and land management. They help to define the boundaries of a property and determine its value. For instance, a farmer may purchase a half section of land to expand their farm or a developer may buy a quarter section to build a new housing development.

@mastermonkey45: Looking at some of the recent decisions in relation to when they went complete, I'd say it's a good sign. It seems many declines were sent within about 5-6 weeks of completion. Given those were applications that were SENT in January, I'd say that means you're still solidly in the running. :)
