A quick definition of house arrest:

House arrest is when someone is not allowed to leave their home for a certain amount of time because they did something wrong. This is a way to punish people for their actions while still letting them stay in their own house. There are rules that have to be followed to make sure it is fair and works well.

A more thorough explanation:

House arrest is a type of punishment where a person is not allowed to leave their home for a certain amount of time. This is usually given as a result of a criminal conviction. The laws that govern house arrest are different in each state and country.

For example, if someone is convicted of a crime and given house arrest as their punishment, they will have to stay in their home for a certain number of hours each day. They may be allowed to leave for work or school, but they will have to come back home right after. They may also be required to wear an electronic monitoring device to make sure they are following the rules.

The purpose of house arrest is to make sure that the person is held accountable for their actions, while also allowing them to keep some of their freedom. It is an important part of the criminal justice system and is used to make sure that people are punished fairly.
