Term: in judicio
Definition: In judicio means "before the judge" in Latin. It was originally used in Roman law to refer to the second stage of a Roman formulary trial, held before a private judge known as a judex. Nowadays, it is still sometimes used to describe a legal proceeding that is taking place in front of a judge. Another term for in judicio is apud judicem. It is important to note that in judicio is different from in jure, which refers to a legal right or claim.
