Infibulation is a type of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) where the clitoris, labia minora, and much of the labia majora are cut off. FGM is a harmful practice where one or more female sexual organs are cut or removed. It is mostly practiced in certain tribes in Africa, but it also happens in some immigrant populations in the United States and other Western countries. There are three types of FGM: sunna, excision, and infibulation. In the United States, it is illegal to perform FGM, and using cultural defense as an excuse is not allowed.
Definition: Infibulation is a type of female genital mutilation where the clitoris, labia minora, and much of the labia majora are cut off.
Example: In some African tribes, young girls are subjected to infibulation as a cultural practice.
This means that young girls are forced to undergo a painful and dangerous procedure that involves cutting off parts of their genitals. This is done in the belief that it will make them more "pure" or "clean". However, infibulation can cause serious health problems, including infections, chronic pain, and difficulty urinating or menstruating.
