A quick definition of landing:

Term: LANDING

Definition: A landing is a place where boats or ships can stop to load and unload things or people. It can also be the end of a river or other body of water where boats can stop. Landing can also mean when a plane or helicopter comes back down to the ground after flying.

A more thorough explanation:

Definition: A landing is a place where goods are loaded and unloaded, or where passengers and watercraft are received and delivered on a river or other navigable water. It can also refer to the act of coming back to land after a voyage or flight.

Examples:

  • A cargo ship pulled up to the landing to unload its containers.
  • The ferry docked at the landing to pick up passengers.
  • The pilot made a smooth landing on the runway after a long flight.

The first two examples illustrate the use of landing as a place for loading and unloading goods or receiving and delivering passengers and watercraft. The third example illustrates the use of landing as the act of coming back to land after a flight.
