A quick definition of leproso amovendo:

Term: leproso amovendo

Definition: Leproso amovendo is a term from history that refers to a legal order to remove a person with leprosy from public gatherings, like church or meetings. Leprosy is a disease that can spread easily, so people with leprosy were often isolated to prevent the spread of the disease. This writ was used to enforce that isolation and protect others from getting sick.

A more thorough explanation:

A leproso amovendo was a legal order in history that required a leper to be removed from public gatherings, such as church or meetings.

  • During the Middle Ages, leprosy was a common disease and those who had it were often forced to leave their homes and live in leper colonies. If a leper was found participating in a public gathering, a leproso amovendo could be issued to have them removed.
  • In some parts of the world, leprosy still exists today. If a person with leprosy attends a public event, they may be asked to leave or be removed by authorities using a leproso amovendo.

These examples show how a leproso amovendo was used to remove lepers from public gatherings to prevent the spread of disease. It was a way to protect the health of the community and prevent the spread of leprosy.

It's super weird for any school to say this early that they won't be using their waitlist. That defeats the whole purpose.
What school said that?

wake forest
FrioJGenius
13:50
especially a school like Wake where people will probably deposit but are still on higher ranked waitlists

I'd understand if they were using weasel words, i.e., "it's unlikely that we will be using our waitlist." We're going to see lots of schools that didn't learn from Notre Dame's mistake. Still, unless these schools are cool with the possibility of having their entire overenrolled entering class poached, they should be playing it safe and not trying to empty their waitlist.

(Penn being the obvious exception, of course. They gotta cut their waitlist somehow.)

and to say zero scholarships for admits off a WL is absurd. What if a deposited student doesn't attend. Where does that money go?
ClassyPleasantHeron
13:52
@FrioJGenius: Back into the budget for next year.

the first sentence of the email is how to withdraw with a hyperlink to the withdrawal form. they go on to say "Consequently, we do not anticipate admitting any students from the waitlist from now through the end of April. If seats were to become available later in the spring or summer, we would expect to admit no more than 10 students from the waitlist."
Who wants to email me ?!!

with the any italicized for further venom

Okay, so Wake Forest IS being weasely. That makes more sense.
TenFiftyILuvUGang
13:53
They also say no scholarship money for WL admits, and that if you hang on until orientation week, usually a seat or two opens up
13:53
i mean at least they're being honest rather than leaving everyone wondering
TenFiftyILuvUGang
13:54
thats the only credit u can give them
