A misrepresenter is an individual who communicates a false statement of fact to another person. This false statement is typically made with the intention or effect of influencing the other person's decision or understanding, often leading them to believe something untrue.

• Imagine a homeowner selling their house who tells a potential buyer that the property's foundation was reinforced just two years ago, when in reality, they know it has significant, unaddressed structural cracks. In this scenario, the homeowner is the misrepresenter because they knowingly provided a false statement of fact about the property's condition to influence the buyer's decision.

• Consider a salesperson at an electronics store who assures a customer that a specific laptop model comes with a lifetime warranty, even though they are aware the manufacturer only offers a standard one-year warranty. The salesperson acts as a misrepresenter by presenting a false fact about the product's warranty terms, which could persuade the customer to purchase the laptop under false pretenses.

• Suppose a job applicant includes on their resume a degree from a prestigious university that they never actually attended.
