Simple English definitions for legal terms

obsta principiis

Read a random definition: federal preemption

A quick definition of obsta principiis:

Term: OBSTA PRINCIPIIS

Definition: Obsta principiis means to resist the first signs of trouble or danger. It's like stopping a problem before it gets worse. It's important to be aware of the beginning stages of something negative and take action to prevent it from becoming a bigger issue.

A more thorough explanation:

OBSTA PRINCIPIIS

Obsta principiis means to resist the first approaches or encroachments. It is a Latin phrase that encourages people to take action against something before it becomes a bigger problem.

For example, if you notice a small crack in the wall of your house, you should fix it immediately before it becomes a bigger problem. Similarly, if you see a small fire starting, you should put it out before it spreads and becomes uncontrollable.

Another example is when dealing with bad habits. If you notice that you are starting to develop a bad habit, like smoking or overeating, you should take action to stop it before it becomes a bigger problem and affects your health.

The examples illustrate the meaning of obsta principiis by showing that it is important to take action against something before it becomes a bigger problem. By resisting the first approaches or encroachments, you can prevent a small problem from turning into a bigger one. This can apply to many different situations, from fixing a small crack in a wall to stopping a bad habit before it becomes a serious health issue.

@mastermonkey45: Looking at some of the recent decisions in relation to when they went complete, I'd say it's a good sign. It seems many declines were sent within about 5-6 weeks of completion. Given those were applications that were SENT in January, I'd say that means you're still solidly in the running. :)

Sent an app to OSU in early december and have STILL not heard back
