Simple English definitions for legal terms

office of honor

Read a random definition: antitrust laws

A quick definition of office of honor:

Office of Honor: A special job given by the government that is very important and respected, but does not pay any money. People who have this job are trusted to take care of important things for the public.

A more thorough explanation:

An office of honor is a public position that is uncompensated but holds considerable dignity and importance. It is a position where public trusts or interests are confided. This type of office is different from a lucrative office, which produces fee revenue or a salary to the officeholder.

  • Ambassador for Peace: This is an example of an office of honor. It is a title given to individuals who have made significant contributions to world peace. The position does not come with a salary, but it holds great importance and recognition.
  • Volunteer Coordinator: This is another example of an office of honor. It is a position that is responsible for managing volunteers for a non-profit organization. The position is unpaid, but it is essential for the success of the organization.

These examples illustrate the definition of an office of honor because they are both public positions that hold considerable importance and are uncompensated. They are positions where public trusts or interests are confided, and they require individuals to serve in a capacity that benefits the greater good.

Do the admissions offices close on Veterans Day?
I think someone here was really interested in Cornell Law. I forgot their username now but I just talked to the Cornell admissions rep at the Houston LSAC fair and apparently 2/3 of people who interview at Cornell ultimately get in.

I wonder what it’s dependent on? Are the 2/3 chosen on stats, or interview performance, or more holistically?
I'm honestly not sure
