@babycat: I mean, maybe but again, left too ambiguous.

I don’t think the movie is responsible for the intelligence of the average viewer and I don’t think it needs to have an unambiguous moral message to be a good film

This is like those people who say that Lolita is ontologically evil because it’s from the perspective of the narrator. You need to be comfortable with ambiguity in life
babycat

The movie or book doesn’t have to tell you how to feel
well with lolita maybe some versions don't have it but at least in the original russian publication the foreword of the book is that this is a court transcript of his confession
so yeah it does tell you how to feel because it shows every description of her is completely untrue and warped
but nabokov published much weirder shit than lolita as wild as that is lol

I think it can be ambiguous, but it should be something the viewer should be able to figure out. If not then what is the point. In terms of audience intelligence, I don't think the highest level of movie watchers would care for this movie. I think the opposite. The movie does not appeal to the highest level of movie watchers. It also doesn't appeal to like the lowest level either. It just tells a simple story that comes off as propoganda.
yeah you're right thank you
i agree dkk if we are talking about lolita

we’re talking about the movie perfect days by wim wenders
unfortunately it very much distills the actual novel which yeah i mean that is typical of any film ever so it's not profound of me to say that

Ahh nah was talking about the Japanese movie. And I would say how people are comfortable with ambiguity can be completely different. I feel as if when I see ambiguity I just say whatever, but when others see it they obsess over it to the point they gain anxiety and it is not healthy. Engaging with ambiguity is not something that should be encouraged.
