The term remancipate refers to the act of formally transferring ownership or control of something (or, historically, someone) again, after it has already undergone a similar formal transfer. It implies the re-execution of a specific, often ritualistic, legal process of conveyance or surrender that was previously performed.

  In a historical legal system, a valuable estate was formally conveyed from a seller to a buyer through a specific, ceremonial process known as mancipation, involving witnesses and symbolic acts. Years later, the buyer decides to sell the same estate to a third party. To ensure the transfer was legally recognized and binding according to the strict formal requirements of that era, the buyer would have to remancipate the estate to the new owner, performing the entire formal conveyance ritual once more.
