Simple English definitions for legal terms

sheriff's jury

Read a random definition: notice to creditors

A quick definition of sheriff's jury:

A sheriff's jury is a group of people chosen by law to decide if someone is guilty or not guilty of a crime. They listen to the facts of the case and then make a decision, called a verdict. A sheriff's jury is similar to other types of juries, like a grand jury or a petit jury, but it is specifically chosen by the sheriff.

A more thorough explanation:

A sheriff's jury is a group of people selected according to the law and given the power to decide questions of fact and return a verdict in the case submitted to them. It is similar to a regular jury, but it is summoned by a sheriff instead of a court.

For example, if there is a dispute over property boundaries, a sheriff's jury may be called to determine the correct boundary line. The sheriff's jury will hear evidence from both sides and then make a decision based on the facts presented to them.

Another example is a coroner's jury, which is a type of sheriff's jury summoned by a coroner to investigate the cause of death. The coroner's jury will hear evidence from witnesses and experts to determine the cause of death.

Overall, a sheriff's jury is a group of people who are selected to make a decision based on the facts presented to them in a specific case.

@mastermonkey45: Looking at some of the recent decisions in relation to when they went complete, I'd say it's a good sign. It seems many declines were sent within about 5-6 weeks of completion. Given those were applications that were SENT in January, I'd say that means you're still solidly in the running. :)

Sent an app to OSU in early december and have STILL not heard back
Give it 4 more weeks at least. Everyone in this chat needs to wait longer.
