Simple English definitions for legal terms

substantial justice

Read a random definition: ewage

A quick definition of substantial justice:

Substantial justice means that laws are administered fairly and properly, and that people are given a fair trial based on the rules of the law. It is important that people's rights are protected, even if there are some mistakes made during the legal process. Judges are the people who make sure that justice is done, and they can be either an associate justice or a chief justice.

A more thorough explanation:

Substantial justice means fair and proper administration of laws. It is the justice that is administered according to the rules of substantive law, regardless of any procedural errors that do not affect the litigant's substantive rights. It is a fair trial on the merits.

  • If a person is accused of a crime, they have the right to a fair trial where the evidence is presented and evaluated. If the trial is conducted fairly and the verdict is based on the evidence presented, then substantial justice has been served.
  • Similarly, if a person is involved in a civil lawsuit, they have the right to a fair trial where the evidence is presented and evaluated. If the trial is conducted fairly and the verdict is based on the evidence presented, then substantial justice has been served.

These examples illustrate how substantial justice is about ensuring that the legal process is fair and that the outcome is based on the merits of the case. It is not about technicalities or procedural errors, but about ensuring that justice is done.

@mastermonkey45: Looking at some of the recent decisions in relation to when they went complete, I'd say it's a good sign. It seems many declines were sent within about 5-6 weeks of completion. Given those were applications that were SENT in January, I'd say that means you're still solidly in the running. :)

Sent an app to OSU in early december and have STILL not heard back
Give it 4 more weeks at least. Everyone in this chat needs to wait longer.
