The purpose is to determine if the current court is the most appropriate venue or if the case should be handled under different legal rules or in a different judicial system.

• Juvenile to Adult Court: Imagine a 16-year-old is accused of committing a serious felony. The prosecutor might believe that the juvenile court system is not equipped to handle the severity of the crime or provide adequate punishment, and therefore petitions to have the case tried in adult criminal court.
