Simple English definitions for legal terms

usage

Read a random definition: specific policy

A quick definition of usage:

Usage refers to a common and regular practice that is followed by people in a particular profession or business. It can be a habit or a tradition that people are used to doing. There are different types of usage, such as general usage, immemorial usage, local usage, and trade usage. General usage is a practice that is followed throughout a country or a particular trade or profession. Immortal usage is a practice that has existed for a very long time. Local usage is a practice that is regularly observed in a particular place. Trade usage is a customary practice or set of practices relied on by people in a particular trade or business.

A more thorough explanation:

Definition: A customary and uniform practice, often in a specific profession or business.

Examples:

  • General usage: A practice that prevails throughout a country or particular trade or profession, not restricted to a local area.
  • Trade usage: A customary practice or set of practices relied on by persons in a trade or business, having such regularity of observance that it justifies an expectation that it will be observed in a given transaction.
  • Local usage: A practice or method regularly observed in a particular place, sometimes considered by a court in interpreting a document.

The examples illustrate how usage can vary in scope and application, from a general practice across a country or profession to a specific practice in a particular place or trade. These practices are often relied upon and expected to be followed in transactions and agreements within their respective contexts.

@mastermonkey45: Looking at some of the recent decisions in relation to when they went complete, I'd say it's a good sign. It seems many declines were sent within about 5-6 weeks of completion. Given those were applications that were SENT in January, I'd say that means you're still solidly in the running. :)

Sent an app to OSU in early december and have STILL not heard back
