  This illustrates a UTPCPL violation because the store engaged in bait-and-switch advertising, a deceptive practice where a product is advertised at a very low price to attract customers, who are then persuaded to buy a more expensive item. The advertisement was not a genuine offer but a tactic to mislead consumers.

• Misleading Service Contracts: A home security company offers a "free installation" promotion for its alarm system, but the contract includes a mandatory, non-cancelable five-year monitoring agreement with a high monthly fee and significant early termination penalties that are not clearly disclosed upfront. The sales representative emphasizes the "free" aspect without adequately explaining the long-term financial commitment and its associated costs.

  This demonstrates an unfair trade practice because the company used misleading terms and obscured crucial contractual obligations, preventing consumers from fully understanding the true cost and commitment before signing. The "free" offer was deceptive given the hidden long-term financial burden.

• False Product Claims: A brand of dietary supplements claims its product can cure a specific chronic illness, citing "scientific studies" on its packaging and website. In reality, these studies are either non-existent, misinterpreted, or conducted by biased sources, and there is no credible medical evidence to support the product's efficacy for the claimed cure.

  This is an example of an unfair trade practice because the company is making false and unsubstantiated claims about the health benefits of its product. Such misrepresentations can deceive consumers into purchasing an ineffective product, potentially delaying proper medical treatment and causing financial harm.
