They took a few days to respond to my negotiation email then said no, but I think they do consider them.
Could just be applicant dependent - but none of my negotiations have worked thus far. It's a brutal cycle imo, seems like a lot of programs are running out of scholarship money already too (or at least don't have extra allotted to negotiate given the decisions are running behind)
From what I've learned, funds become tight/run out ahead of seat deposits. After, adcoms have a clearer picture of what their class will look like and have new freedom to move money around
Anyone going to IU ASD on the 23rd?
@DarkDecorousFerret: You think that means money will free up the week heading into deposits, for example? I'm assuming there's no negotiation to be had after the deposits so
@wealthofnations: I wouldn’t expect so in the week ahead, but after the deadline there is a case to be made for asking for a reconsideration. It’s common for schools to give scholarships to admits off WLs, which means that money had to have come from post-seat deposit reevaluation. They initially promise much more money than they have knowing that the majority won’t attend. The seat deposit deadline is the first hard data point they get about where matriculation stands.
@DarkDecorousFerret: Don't you think leverage is kinda lost after that first deposit? Or are you assuming there is still room to negotiate before the 1st and 2nd (final, binding) deposit?
@wealthofnations: If you’ve already deposited, yes, you’re correct about having lost that leverage. This is specially so if you have multiple deposits down. Everything I’ve said hinges on not having deposited yet.
@DarkDecorousFerret: sorry confused because in the initial comment you said "but after the deadline there is a case to be made for asking for a reconsideration" - so assumed you meant the first deposit deadline.
Agreed, always assumed all negotiation is prior to the first deposit deadline so am hoping so money opens up across the board the week before the first deposits are due
I see now what you're saying about the first statement. Best of luck with any negotiations!
That balance of being post-deposit and negotiating, applies most if you get the A after 1 or both of the seat deposit deadlines has already passed. Otherwise, like you said, the negotiations happen ahead of the deadlines, deposit or not.

If you are going to ASD, can you please ask Adcom what they think their enrollment will look like by mid-April and whether they expect to make offers to WL candidates?

respectfully, WL applicant :)
Why is it taking so long for decisions? I submitted 1/31 and still not even under review
deluluapplicant123

They are probably backlogged. I think they started reviewing applications in December

Mine took 2 months to go under review but once it did, I got the decision fairly quickly (within 10 business days)
