belmont sent 10 to 250+ firms and vet? maybe vls isnt out of the realm of possibility
yeah im in it entirely for big law and exit into inhouse after a few years. sure you're essentially sacrificing 3-7 years of your life. but you can retire much much earlier with the money you save up
and yeah im puzzled why you wouldnt want big law because it's definitely within grasp for you and you could just retire at 45 after dropping a few years
Maybe outside of the IC and the DoD the government is different but the beauracracy and just tom foolery of wasting/defrauding the tax payers killed my soul too much. We had a CPT do a change of command and it cost the tax payer $42k. Had a 2 star do a change of command and it came out for over a quarter million in tax payer funding for this dude to celebrate his retirement.
thats pretty jading
15:12
With big law you can retire at 45, but you'll be dead by 30 lol
haha fair
15:12
nomnomnom taxpayer money so tasty
@Scorediot: saying VLS is a chance for me? Honestly for those higher ranked schools I feel Ill be a diversity higher cause those dudes in their median have to be significantly smarter then me.

worst case youre out $95 bucks man, just shoot your shot if youre interested.

some govt work is interesting, and boyyyy do they need lawyers
My biggest turn off from big law is hearing the stories of 80hr+ work weeks. Did that my last 5 years in the Army and my dog started to forget who I was. I had no life at all and with my daughter being born in late December I do not want to rob any time from her.

I worked for a federal agency for a bit and it was crazy; thousands of cases but only like 20 people who were able to work on them

Chillablehours > Billable hours
I applied Vanderbilt because they offered me a waiver so it was free, not really hedging my bets on it but a believe in casting a big net when you can.
15:15
Whats the Chill to Bill (CtoB) ratio
yeah i got you youre basically selling those years of your life. the apocryphal story in big law is the partner telling the associates that have both spouses in big law that they need to find someone to raise their kids because it certainly wont be them
15:16
i'd do big law while i dont have kids and then go smaller
15:16
once i get married and stuff
15:16
@BulbasaurNoLikeCardio: you are above 3.3/160 so every school is possible, even if like 0.01%. But with your military service, and how your profile presents, you may have a realistic, non "well you're saying there is a chance" way
15:16
whats it like being a husband bulby
15:16
@Scorediot: I agree!

facts, your story is compelling
I have my TS-SCI clearance for two more years before renewal so I am sure the fed boys will be looking at me. One of my closest friends in the Army did 22 years, out of those 22 years he only spent 6 years stateside with his family before he retired. His kids are now 18. I do not want a life like that at all. @scorediot, lets hope all the adcoms for the schools I apply at view it the same lol
Being married is having someone to ask what is for dinner to a couple times through out the day before settling on oven pizza and passing out early watching netflix dramas
15:20
For sure, good luck!
15:27
Tbh not sure when I’ll get married because my life has been a constant crazy grind. I think the only option for me is to find someone who’s just as deep into that grind

I asked my best friend what they think about marriage and they simply said “I just care about money, to get rich is glorious”

I think about that from time to time
or have both
