Strong softs with a cohesive narrative (somewhere between tiers 2 and 3). TFA for 2 years after undergrad, with another year at a similar organization in a leadership role. Good luck, and don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself!

Softs: 4 years of (very unique) full time human rights & justice-based work experience, established community organizer, 1st gen lawyer/raised by a single mom, bi woman. Applied ED to Northwestern, but bumped to RD before acceptance.
Wrote diversity statements, most optional essays. The softest of softs, 1 year of work experience with Americorps/public service and not many other work positions. Fiercely committed to PI work and nothing else. Literally did nothing during college years. T20~ undergrad.
I put myself as T4 softs because I’m KJD and most of my resume items are typical undergraduate activities: legal internship, lab research, TA position, and club leadership. However, I am a first-generation college student with 2 majors (STEM + business-related), which maybe helped me standout a little bit, but…
Do not screw up the LSAT. I mean it. I thought my softs could carry me but they couldn’t. My 158 killed me. Suspecting that’s the cause of my overwhelming WL results. I’m happy to attend the school I am, but because of my low LSAT, the schools that admitted me offered me little to no scholarships. Apply to schools…
Wrote Why X for Duke, Mich, Berkeley, Cornell, Virginia. Core Values for Penn. Additional Essays for Stanford and Georgetown. T3/T4 Softs STEM double major
Very mundane softs (typical extracurriculars/internships), but connected all of my experiences into a coherent story in my PS that showed Why Law Hover over result column for essay/interview details.
T2 softs and Ivy undergrad. Didn’t write Why X essays, but wrote other optional essays. Included a non-traditional diversity statement (meaning I didn’t talk about race) and a pretty wild academic addendum. I know for a fact that my essays and interviews were what got me very far in the admissions process- spend a…

Ask every school for fee waivers, apply early, and max out your LSAT and GPA. Your softs will not make you but they can break you, so make sure your personal statement, additional essays, and resume are coherent and typo-free. Other than that, you’re at the mercy of the admission cycle. Also, try not to constantly…
…to where I want to end up working. Pretty run of the mill softs: Pre-law club president, Swing Dance Society president, Volunteer throughout undergrad at local pet shelter, have worked in same place (full time summers, part time school year) for 6 years with two promotions during that time. Wrote a diversity…
Though my “softs” are individually T4, I have an outrageous amount of them; thus, on an overall basis, they may be considered T3. STEM Major. Wrote Diversity Statement for all schools. Wrote a tailored Why X for about 1/3 of applied schools (e.g., Berk, Penn, Duke, etc.) My advice is to focus on overshadowing your…
