Hello future splitter law applicants (if you ever see this). I’m a first-generation college student, and aside from that, am not in any way a URM. I only wrote a “why X” for Duke and wrote the “unpopular opinion” optional essay for Georgetown. In retrospect, I wish I had applied ED to GULC, and wrote more “why X”…

Admitted to Northeastern UniversityApplying to only reach schools is a great way to ensure you gain another year of work experience.
START EARLY!!! i started way too late. APPLY FOR FEE WAIVERS A MONTH BEFORE YOU PLAN ON SUBMITTING - I didn’t realize that I qualified for most fee waivers, and ended up not having them because I didn’t have time to wait for them to come in. Wrote supplementals for most schools, usually “Why X.” Applied to…
resume included study abroad- capital defense paralegal for three years President of clubs and member of many leadership positions published thesis and manual for PD URM, first generation, multilingual took LSAT three times, 151, 156, 158 final Did all optional essays and contacted schools for phone conversations,…
I can only attend part time in Boston area, so that’s where I applied. With my mediocre gpa, I believe my good LSAT and engaging personal statement got me acceptances and scholarships of various amounts. Top choice was Northeastern, but New England law gave me a full ride and I’d rather attend a low ranked school…
Employed as a presuit writer at a law office. Published author (not academic though) Was a STEM major…(big mistake) Reaches: Upenn, UT, UF, UNC Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, UGeorgia, Washington and Lee, FSU Targets: UMiami, Tulane, Temple, Baylor, URichmond, Northeastern, Georgia State Safety(are there really any…
Apply broadly splitters and February is the latest I’d suggest applying. Pour your heart and soul into your writing but don’t be too negative or whiny. Vulnerability and candor go a long way into humanizing yourself as an applicant and will give you some more leeway with the empathetic side of adcomms. also, it…
Comparison is the thief of joy. (Related: get off Reddit.)
My best advice to splitters, beyond having a high LSAT score, is to write every essay for the school you’re applying to, even the optional ones. It shows the school you’re serious about them; plus, any opportunity to showcase who you are will put you ahead over other applicants who didn’t write those optional essays…
Grew up in a low-income community and eventually my family was evicted–wrote my DS about this. Former college athlete. Decent work experience as a paralegal for a few years and since then in state government–wrote my PS about the state government side. Wrote “Why X” essays for UCLA and ND, included similar language…

Ask for fee waivers everywhere- , no matter what your stats are. I didn’t pay a single application fee and saved hundreds of dollars. This is a fairly predictable game. You don’t need more than 2-3 safety schools. I wasted time working on so many applications to places that I wouldn’t even want to attend. LSAT Demon…
Apply when you feel comfortable with your application material. Do not rush to get your apps out as early as possible. Literally just email schools asking for a merit based fee waiver to save yourself some costs. Worst they can say is no. Give yourself more time than you think you need to write your personal…
heading to wake forest! went into this process hoping for northeastern, and i would hate to admit but i guess that i applied too late (12/25… so after their first deadline) which made me miss the big scholarships. if anyone else is hoping to go there i strongly suggest to apply before the early app deadline. excited…
Wrote Why X/ Optional Essays for all schools BC and higher on my list except NYU (added a personalized paragraph to my PS instead) and ASU Fee waivers: some through LSAC, some solicited by asking to alleviate the financial burden of applying , some solicited based on merit once I emailed the school my fellowship…
Shoot your shot and trust your gut :) Write and rewrite your personal statement, and get several sets of eyes on it. Stay off of reddit, it is far more harmful than helpful. Try not to compare your journey to others. “Navigating Law School Admissions” Podcast was a huge help for me. Take care of yourself! Good Luck :)
shoot your shot take a gap year(s) and get experience and raise your score prestige matters but dont do it at the expense of financial sanity believe in yourself get an honest opinion of someone at the school (preferably a 2L or 3L not connected to the admissions outreach process) spellcheck your apps lol
Don’t put a question mark where God put a period #asf
-Picking which school is harder than waiting for admission decisions -Write all the essays and make sure you do them well, not halfway and just calling it good enough -Consider how the school fits you more than anything else, because a school may be number one in rank but that doesn’t mean it’s the best for you
