Chinese Exclusion Act

Read a random definition: debtee

A quick definition of Chinese Exclusion Act:

The Chinese Exclusion Act was a law passed in 1882 that stopped Chinese people from coming to the United States for ten years. It also said that Chinese people couldn't become American citizens. Only some Chinese people, like travelers and teachers, were allowed to come to the United States. This law was finally changed in 1943 during World War II, but other laws still made it hard for Chinese people to come to America until 1965.

A more thorough explanation:

The Chinese Exclusion Act was a law passed by the United States Congress in 1882 that prohibited Chinese people from immigrating to the United States and becoming citizens. The law was in effect for ten years and had a significant impact on Chinese immigrants and their families.

  • Chinese people who were already living in the United States were not allowed to become citizens, even if they had been living in the country for many years.
  • Chinese people who left the United States for any reason, such as to visit family or for business, were not allowed to return.
  • Chinese people who were already in the United States were often subject to discrimination and violence because of their race and nationality.

These examples illustrate how the Chinese Exclusion Act was a discriminatory law that targeted Chinese people and prevented them from fully participating in American society. The law had a lasting impact on Chinese immigrants and their families, and its effects were felt for many years after it was repealed.

This does not include weightless decisions that can be up until the week of orientation that they’re given so I think this year with how many applications the April 30 deadline means nothing. So keep faith for sure!

Also, Notre Dame said that they still have a lot of spots to give and a lot of scholarship money to give and that no one should get discouraged and it’s just a slower process this year so if you haven’t heard back, don’t worry at all
