composite mark

Read a random definition: general assignment

A quick definition of composite mark:

A composite mark is a special type of trademark that uses a combination of words, symbols, or logos to identify a product or service. The main purpose of a trademark is to show where a product comes from and to make it stand out from other products. To be protected by law, a trademark must be unique and registered with the government. Composite marks can be made up of ordinary words, but they must form a distinctive whole. Advertising slogans are often protected as composite marks.

A more thorough explanation:

A composite mark is a type of trademark that consists of a combination of words, symbols, or designs that form a distinctive whole. Even if the individual elements of the mark are ordinary, the combination creates a unique identifier for a product or service. Advertising slogans are often examples of composite marks.

For example, the Nike "swoosh" logo and the "Just Do It" slogan are both part of Nike's composite mark. The combination of the two elements creates a distinctive identifier for Nike's products.

When registering a composite mark, the registrant must disclaim ownership in any unregistrable parts of the mark. This means that if a part of the mark is not eligible for trademark protection, the registrant cannot claim ownership of that part.

@mastermonkey45: Looking at some of the recent decisions in relation to when they went complete, I'd say it's a good sign. It seems many declines were sent within about 5-6 weeks of completion. Given those were applications that were SENT in January, I'd say that means you're still solidly in the running. :)

Sent an app to OSU in early december and have STILL not heard back
Give it 4 more weeks at least. Everyone in this chat needs to wait longer.
